1st Solution Managed Services

XDA Xtra from 1st Solution

If you are a small company then it may not be worth investing in your own server equipment to run email. With this in mind 1st Solution now offer mailboxes on our own servers which are compatible with the older XDA IIs  devices as well as the new Mobile 5 equipped units and your Outlook 2003 internet connected XP PCs. This gives you all the features of a big company mail system without the need to have the IT skills to run it or the up front costs of the server equipment.

The key features of this service are-

  • The mailbox is stored here rather than on your PC which means it backed up by us so you don't lose email if your system crashes.
  • You can use your PC and your XDA to view the mailbox and its always up to date with the same view on your email i.e. if you read an item on your PC it shows as read on the XDA and vice-versa.
  • You synchronise your mailbox over a connection from any internet provider or any type which gives you freedom to use wireless hot spots, GPRS, 3G, modem dial up or broadband.
  • You can send email out via the our servers using your own domain name so your email send address is consistent across whatever machine you use on any connection.
  • Compatible with mobile notebook workers with O2 Data cards or via WiFi hot spots.
  • You can use this service with as little as one mailbox or many mailboxes, which means the service can scale as your company grows.
  • Ability to synchronise shared calendars and tasks across multiple users and machines.
  • Ability to access mailbox via a web browser from any internet connected PC anywhere in world including hotels and CyberCafe's
  • Secure connectivity using https means your mailbox data is secure.
  • Support for WAP 2.0 devices.
  • Email is spam and virus filtered before it enters the mailbox thereby minimising your risk of exposure to virus threats.
  • Full Exchange push technology compatibility with Mobile 5 devices.

Back to topWhat do I need to have in place

If you want to use the service with an XDAIIs supplied by us then we can supply the XDA pre-configured for the service.

If you already have an XDA IIs then we can provide you with instructions for how to set it up to use the service or for a small charge you can return the unit to us and we will configure it for you.

If you would like to use a PC or multiple PCs with the service the PCs will need to meet the minimum requirements. These requirements are-

Windows XP Service Pack 2
Microsoft Outlook 2003 (which you may purchase from us if required)
Internet connectivity via dial up, broadband or O2 mobile data card

Your email address can be based on a domain name under your
ownership or as as part of our domain. i.e. your email can be in
the form of john@mycompany.com or one of our domains like john@mycompany.o2xda.net. If you want to use your own domain then the pointers for your email domain will need to be set to point at our mail servers.

Back to topHow does it work

The service provides access to resilient Exchange 2003 servers which are connected to the internet via 100% availability lease line circuits. These servers take delivery of your email and place new email in your mailbox.

Exchange Server 2003 has built-in mobile features that are optimized for low-bandwidth and offline situations, and supports a broad range of services to enable connection to your mailbox data whatever the situation. The service from 1st Solution exploits these new services to provide reliable access to your email from where-ever you are whatever your internet connection options may be.

Back to topHow do I set the service up

When you take service from us we will configure your mailbox requirements on the server. You are then issued with a digital security certificate which is used for the encryption between you and your XDA IIs or PC. After a small amount of configuration on your PC and/or XDA IIs  the service setup is complete and you can then access your mailbox.
